What is the main language spoken in this series?
The most common usage is Ancient Egyptian and Latin. However, the use of Senubrian is also showed in book one of War and Ruins. This conlang is a combination of Latin and Ancient Egyptian. Even though this isn’t confirmed in the novel, it is an entirely new conlang. Often the language will be describe upon seeing the conlang.
Why choose a mixture of language? Why not just pick one?
During this periodic timeline, in the year 724 AUD (30 BCE), there was great change occurring through the world. This was the year that Queen Cleopatra VII and Mark Antony were defeated by Octavian.Β
It was also the year Egypt fell to the Romans in their conquest, transforming Ancient Egypt into a Roman province.Β
Rome’s civl war and political input lead to this downfall, which caused a submersion of culture, language and generations of traditions that either ended or collapsed with the final legacy of the Ptolemaic Dynasty.
30 BCE was considered, and seen as the symbolic end to the Ancient Egyptian Reign and all that noted the Ptolemaic Dynasty as an independent Civilisation.Β
With this knowledge, I wanted to create an evolution of language to capture that change (even if I explain Senubrian to be an ancient tongue). I wanted to be able to express the cultural difference and traditions, and the only way to successfully transition that into text is to have a mother tongue.
With language brings traditions, with traditions comes life.
